This plan involves:
Scheduling
Devise a schedule in
which tutoring sessions are conducted at a time that will
best allow the student to focus during the session and
maintain momentum from one session to the next.
Environment
Conduct the tutoring
sessions in an environment that is conducive to learning.
This is usually possible in the client’s home; however, we
offer the option of meeting at our office, at a library, or
at the student’s school.
Educational Resources
Select the most
appropriate resource materials, giving consideration to the
student’s current ability level, the expected duration of
the tutoring program, and the student’s learning style.
The Perfect Tutor
Determining the ideal
tutor for a student goes well beyond the academic
qualifications of the tutor. In school, it is not
uncommon for a student to have a class with a teacher who is
extremely well-qualified yet somehow things never “click”
and the student becomes frustrated with the class. No
matter how talented the teacher, it would be unrealistic to
expect that he or she would be equally effective in helping
every student in the class.
The luxury of one-to-one
tutoring is that the instruction isn’t based on what will
work for “most of the class.” With a class size of
one, we are able to ensure that every student is taught at
the appropriate level and pace by a tutor who is not only
qualified on paper, but who is also selected as the best fit
for the student’s personality and learning style.
Is the student shy or
outgoing? A worrier or laid back? Distracted or
focused? An athlete? A musician? An honor
student? Hooked on computers? Hoping for the Ivy
League? Hoping to pass Geometry? Struggling for
the first time? Intimidated just by the word “Math”?
